What an exciting milestone! Your little one is embarking on their very first school journey, and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome them into our Reception family. This magical year is filled with discoveries, friendships, and countless "wow" moments that will spark their love of learning.
From learning their first letters/sounds to making new friends, every day brings something wonderful. We've created a nurturing environment where curiosity flourishes and every child feels valued, supported, and ready to shine.
Autumn Term Adventures
As the leaves begin to change and cozy sweaters come out, we're settling into our autumn learning journey together. This term is packed with exciting discoveries that will help your child develop essential skills while having loads of fun!
📚 English Adventures
We're diving into the delightful world of "Peace at Last" by Jill Murphy! Your little ones will follow poor Mr. Bear as he searches for the perfect quiet spot to sleep.
Our mastery targets:
- Spell words by identifying sounds and writing them with letters
- Form lower-case letters correctly
🔢 Mathematical Discoveries
Maths becomes magical when we explore numbers through play! Using the trusted NCETM 'Mastering Number' approach, we'll make numbers come alive.
Our exciting targets:
- Subitising within 3 (instantly recognising small amounts)
- Building strong counting skills
- Understanding composition of numbers 3 and 4
- Using comparison language: "more than" and "fewer than"
Phonics Fun with Read Write Inc.
Get ready to meet Fred the Frog! Our proven Read Write Inc. phonics program makes learning to read an absolute joy. Your child will work in small, carefully matched groups where they'll discover the magic of turning sounds into words.
Every six weeks, we assess each child to ensure they're in the perfect group for their learning journey.
🏃♀️ PE Fun Times
Movement and fun go hand in hand! Your child should wear their PE kit to school every Tuesday and Thursday starting after October half term.
PE Kit essentials: Plain dark/black jogging bottoms, cozy black jumper or hoodie, outdoor trainers, and warm socks.
Gentle Reminders for Our Wonderful Parents
Daily Essentials
Please send your little one with a small labeled bag and water bottle (water only, please!). Pack spare under clothes every day – just in case!
Label Everything!
From jumpers to lunch boxes, please label all of your child's belongings. You'd be amazed how many identical items find their way to school!
Pick-up Changes
If someone different is collecting your child, please let us know in advance. For safety, children under 16 cannot collect other children.
Weather-Ready Explorers
We love exploring outdoors in all weather! Please ensure your child has a coat in school so they can join our outdoor adventures, whether it's sunny, rainy, windy, or snowy.
Encouraging Independence: Please help your child practice self-care skills like dressing and using the toilet independently. These little steps build huge confidence!
